If you are a person that believes in the saying “Big things come in small packages”, then you will be pleasantly surprised at what will take place this Saturday when anglers converge on Folsom Lake for the “Capitol City Showdown”, and the 2nd stop for the 2012 Thunder Valley Outdoors/Future Pro Tour.
Temperatures have been in the mid 70’s all week, and are predicted to climb into the 80’s by Saturday. Couple this with water temperatures that are ranging anywhere from the high 50’s to the low 60’s, along with a spikes of cool water coming from the runoff of the distant sierras, and you have all the ingredients necessary to create the “perfect storm” and a mammoth big bass slugfest.
Tony Koregalos who finished high in last year’s event with a monster bag of bass that went over twenty pounds, is looking forward to the event and a chance at a repeat performance. “We know a lot of teams that will be throwing A-rigs all day, but not us. A-rigs may get you a check, but we are not looking for second place or anything else like that…we’re looking for the win – and that means we will be throwing big swimbaits”.
And Tony’s prediction for big bass in this event is completely plausible, as the “Capitol City Showdown” which is held each year in mid-April on Folsom Lake, sees more 7 pound-plus big fish and 18 pound five-fish limits come to the scales than any other event the Tour hosts – including Clearlake which is gigantic by comparison.
And for those participants not too familiar with Folsom lake, key members of the Future Pro Tour’s Pro Support Staff have been enlisted to provide assistance both on and off the water, as on Friday from 10am to 1pm, several pro anglers that fish Folsom Lake on a regular basis, will be stationed at various areas on the lake, to provide “on-the-water” pre-fishing assistance, and at the optional pre-registration festivities to be held Friday evening at C&C Marine from 4-6pm.
Areas on Folsom Lake that Pro Support Staffers will be located at:
· Mike Tuck – New York Creek – (South Fork)
· Andy Sayles – Peninsula
· Dean McDaniel – Beals Point
· John Maes – Rock Gardens (North Fork)
· Jason Kincannon – Rattlesnake area – (North Fork)
· Zack Thompson – Will only be at CC Marine at 4:00pm
· Mark Fong – Will only be at CC Marine at 4:00pm
At the C&C Marine pre-registration festivities you can pre-sign for the event, get in on all of the great Angler bonus programs the Tour offers, enjoy a FREE BBQ, a FREE raffle for some great prizes, PLUS…all anglers in attendance will receive an exclusive FPT-Only coupon from the Tour’s newest sponsor Gary Yamamoto Custom baits, which will give you an opportunity to try some of the premium soft plastics they produce.
But, If you can’t make to Friday’s festivities, you can always register for the event the morning of the event at the Granite Bay launch ramp beginning at 4am, where limited memberships of just $5 per angler will be available for those that can only fish a few FPT events, or just want to try us out.
So get it together everybody and get ready for a fun and exciting day on the water at the Capitol City Showdown!
See you there!
