November 16th: Fishing Florida Radio with BooDreaux, Captain Mike Ortego and Steve Chapman are excited to host the Third Annual Central Florida Gumbo Cook-Off, aka Gumbopalooza, at Fish on Fire Restaurant in Orlando that benefits Give Kids The World, Anglers for Conservation and other local charities with 100 percent giveback.
During the past three years, Fishing Florida Radio has held it’s annual cook-off to benefit Give Kids The World and other local charities at Fish on Fire Restaurant in Orlando Florida. With help from sponsors including Universal Studios Production Group, Hells Bay Boatworks, Mosquito Creek Outdoors, Travel Country Outdoors, Mid-Florida Painting, Smart Ride Inc., Hookup Lures, the 2013 Gumbopalooza is going to be the biggest and best to date. Gumbopalooza raises money that goes back to the outdoor community by the purchasing of fishing rods, reels and tackle for the children with life-threatening diseases at the Give Kids The World Village and also local Hook Kids on Fishing events through-out Central Florida. With over twenty-five teams competing for the People’s Champion trophy and new this year a Judge’s Champion trophy, November 16th is quickly shaping up to be a lot of fun.
The public is welcome to come taste each teams gumbo for ten dollars, and eat as much as they would like and vote for their favorite. Silent auction items and possible to win items including fishing charters, Jackson Kayak, Hobie Revolution Kayak, fishing rods, tackle, vacations, gift cards and more help raise money to support the charities. And with over $25,000.00 raised the first two years, Fishing Florida Radio is hoping to break records this year.
Give Kids The World is a non-profit organization that brings children with life-threatening diseases and their families to Orlando from all corners of the world. These families stay at the Give Kids The World Village and attend the theme parks and have a memorable, magical, cost-free experience. Give Kids The World has welcomed over 122,000 families into their Village. Most of these children have never went fishing and have the opportunity to do so on site. Volunteers regularly take these children and families to a local pond that holds bass, bluegill, catfish and more with the hopes of watching these children catch their first fish and that amazing smile that comes with it. Money raised from Gumbopalooza purchases rods, reels, worms, and other tackle that allows the children to enjoy an evening of fishing and bonding with their parents that can not be duplicated. The memories that ensue is why Fishing Florida Radio holds this benefit each year. These children are young, innocent and have life-threatening diseases that are many times incurable and their time with their family is precious.
This year Fishing Florida Radio will also hold a Kids Fishing Festival before the cook-off with help from Fish Florida and Anglers for Conservation. Over 200 children will receive a free rod and reel after completing the five courses. And as the teams start cooking their best gumbo entertainment including Bubba WhoopAss Wilson and Discovery Channels Swamp Brothers will take the covered stage to entertain the thousand’s of people.
If you would like to donate product for the silent auction, or items for the team thank you bags, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and he will send you the paperwork for taxes and 501c3 number.
