The bottom line was that it was tough for the entire field as demonstrated by the fact that it only took five pounds to win a check. Chuck Guthrie and his partner, Staff Sergeant (Retired) Eric Jackson, Carolina rigged Lake Fork Trophy Lures Lizards for 5.10 pounds and a 21st place finish and received a check for their efforts.

3RD PLACE FINISH AT THE BOATU.S. COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES PEPSI OPEN.

For the third straight year, the BoatU.S. Collegiate Championship Series held the Pepsi Open on Kentucky Lake. The event was held June 29-30 out on Paris Landing. This is the only national collegiate event that has a true team format. Over sixty of the best teams across the country competed in this two day event. The best two weights from each 3 boat team were used each day to determine the total team weight.

TEXAS DROUGHT MAKES FOR A TOUGH DAY ON O.H. IVIE

For the team of Chuck Guthrie and Chad Nelson, fish under 18 inches were easy to catch. They caught at least three 5-fish limits of 16 to 18 inch fish on a wide variety of baits. The first several fish came on topwater baits and the rest of the day was spent catching and slightly upgrading their two “unders” on Carolina Rigs, Shaky heads, and Texas rigged Lake Fork soft plastic baits. “We saw fish stacked up like crazy on the graph; we just couldn’t get them to bite with any consistency,”
